While initial reports of possible bullying incidents may come from staff members, students or parents, an effective Anti-Bullying Program depends heavily on information being given by students as to what is really going on, how long it has been going on, who are involved and in what ways.  The BIBS Ant-Bullying Program is a "Counseling First" approach which is most effective when used in Y6 -Y12, although some of the tools and the overall theme of using a counseling approach can be adjusted and applied to various cases in lower grades as well.

Social Skills Lessons

  • Lessons will be integrated with the POI via assemblies, targeted groups, and/or individual instruction as needed and appropriate. For individual social skills and behavior management planning and treatment, assessments in each domain are done in the Student Support Center which will point to a specific lesson relevant for that student.

  • Teachers are also invited to look up lessons and integrate them in their lesson planning, coordinating with the school counselor so as not to duplicate efforts within the unit.

  • From time to time these social skills and behavior management lessons will be augmented with additional, more specific lessons based on student needs (TCK, Transition, etc.). K-K3 curriculum will be delivered through the classroom teacher with support from school counselor.
